Mark Deal serves as Assistant Athletic Director for Alumni Relations at Indiana University and is the immediate past President of the I Association. His connection to IU is both deep and multigenerational — he played center for the Hoosiers from 1975 to 1978, coached on staff in 1979 and again from 1996 to 1999, and has worked within the athletics department since 2000. Prior to his return to Indiana, Deal held offensive line coaching positions at Rutgers, Virginia Military Institute, Kansas State, Marshall, and Wabash College.

Deal was inducted into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame in 2013 alongside his brother Mike, carrying on a family tradition started by their father Russ, who was inducted in 1976. The family's Hoosier legacy spans four generations of letterwinners — a first in IU Athletics history. In 2019, Mark was honored with the IU Bicentennial Medal by President Michael A. McRobbie for his lasting contributions to the university.

He and his wife Patricia have two children, Carrie and Casey, and five grandchildren.
